Methyl isobutyl ketone, also known as 4-methyl-2-pentane,is a colorless transparent liquid with camphor smell, with a relative density of 0.801, almost insoluble in water, but can form an azeotrope with water, its boiling point is 87.9℃, water content 24.3%, ketone 75.7%, can be miscible with phenol, aldehyde, ether, benzene and other organic solvents. This product is toxic and the vapor irritates the eyes and respiratory tract.
Application: MIBK is used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, lacquers, and certain polymers and resins.
